The project BASEMAC, Bank of Seeds of Macaronesia, includes within a joint strategy of conservation ex- situ in banks of seeds, a maximum possible genetic variability of the populations and varieties of the endemic species of Macaronesia, within the archipelagoes of Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands, giving priority to the species threatened including in 92/43 Director the EEC. It is contributed thus to the proposed objectives, for year 2010, by the World-wide Strategy for the Conservation of the Vegetal Species.
