With today's manufacturing technology for welding filler wires, one pushes the limits of multi-stage wire drawing, if you want to process higher strength or less ductile grades beyond the standard alloys. The LKR has developed a novel process chain for the difficult-to-process AlMgScZr alloys, which uses the direct extrusion of bolts as a massive forming step, which is to be transferred to commercial alloys. In the laboratory only wire lengths of max. 10m are far too short for commercialization. This new technology has to be further developed. The vision of BAWeRIA is to operate all core processes integrated in a new production facility in Bavaria or Austria from the melt to the drawn wire, setting new global standards for alloys, costs and delivery times for standard and new welding wire alloys.
