The Roztocze region, with its unique geography and nature, requires cross-border activities which could boost its recognition. Situated across the Polish-Ukrainian border, it is a multicultural area with great biodiversity, very valuable in terms of nature. The overall objective of the project is promotion and preservation of natural heritage through improving tourist infrastructure, creating tourist products which would strenghten partnership cooperation, and enhancing the recognition of Roztocze as shared natural heritage. The expected changes resulting from this project are: better tourist infrastructure (building and improvement of a 327 km long cycle route), reducing environmental degradation, introducing spatial order in adjacent areas, building the accompanying infrastructure, and enhancing the tourist potential of the area. The main products of the project are: promotion of Roztocze (among others, by publications), preparing a strategic document on preservation and promotion of the natural heritage, newly built and modernized tourist infrastructure, cross-border events, tourist products and services. The products are targeted at both tourists and the local communities. Despite different socioeconomic conditions in Poland and Ukraine, cross-border cooperation facilitates effective protection and tourism in the areas of high nature-value. The cross-border approach, based on linear infrastructure and tourist products and taking into consideration the ways of protection existing on both sides of the border, results in creating objects which can be used by all the interested parties – „together in spite of borders”.
