The Belgian led project brings together a strong grouping of 13 partners representing a range of forest-related interests over Belgium, Germany, France and Luxemburg. The project deals with a coherent territorially-transnational woodland region and seeks to promote common promotional activities. The objectives support sustainable forest management through the themes of environmental protection, development of tourism, sustainable housing, but also social and recreational issues which could also contribute to reinforcing the competitive position of Saar-Sor-Lux forests vis-à-vis the wood and timber industry. The project’s key objective is to further develop the transnational forest-wood network in the Saar-Sor-Lux region. It will seek to establish a certification of forests at the level of public and private forest owners, introduce a control procedure linked to certification at the level of foresters and sawmills, promote the continuous improvement of forest management, and consolidate and re-evaluate the use of wood in the construction industry by means of socio-economic and tourist actions (‘Route du Bois’).
