Under the project, it is planned to prepare a concept for the location of a border bridge over the River of Nysa Łużycka between Pieńsk in Poland and Deschka in Germany, including its access roads. Both Poland and Germany find it urgent to build a bridge in the area, which reflects in an international agreement concluded by the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Republic of the Federal Republic of Germany on 21 November 2000 in Frankfurt/Oder. It is not easy to find a road corridor in the specified area due to the environmental protection requirements. Therefore, Project Partners planned to carry out a common location expertise which will make it possible to establish an optimal location for the new bridge. Project Partners will prepare the Terms of Reference before announcing a tender for a public order, under which they will select a common contractor to prepare an expert’s opinion on the location, and will finance the order in equal parts. The German Partner will finance its part from its own budget in 100%, while the Polish Partner plans to have its part co-financed from the EU funds. The space of research under the expert’s opinion will cover, excluding an old road corridor planned and registered in the local plan of spatial management of the Municipality of Pieńsk, further corridors in the South direction from Pieńsk/Deschka and in the North direction up to the railway line Horka-Węgliniec. The project is aimed at identifying an optimal location of the bridge which will contribute to eliminating the development barrier in the support area within the Polish and Saxon borderland by enhancing the cross-border mobility of its residents and enhancing the cross-border communication accessibility of the area. The bridge will contribute to strengthening social and economic contacts between Polish and German residents of the borderland, thus contributing to the development of the area.
