The aim of the project is to establish two museums – one in Kalvarija (in the former Tsar Post Raiders’ Station) and the second one in Suchowola. In the established museums the common Lithuanian-Polish history will be reflected, as well as ethnic groups, living in both countries, presented – primarily Jews, but also Tatars, Germans and Poles (in case of Kalvarija), who lived in the territory of the project partners in the past. Tourism information offices are also planned to be open in the buildings, where joint promotional and informational materials will be available. Actions aimed at promotion and preservation of cultural heritage of both communities are planned under the ”soft“ component of the project. Two multicultural festivals and workshops “Explorers of history” for school students will be organised in both towns. Both partners will also take part in the biggest tourism trade fair in Lithuania. It is expected that project will have positive impact on the socio-economic development of the border area. At present, stay of a vast majority of the tourists coming there is usually limited to merely part of a day, without using local accommodation and catering facilities. Presentation of the interesting past of both municipalities, as well as opportunities to spend free time will encourage tourists to stay longer, as well as to return in the future.
