The purpose of the project was to increase the tourist appeal of Kainuu and White Sea Karelia by designing and producing material about the region’s nature and the interaction of the local people and culture. Th e project aimed at producing guide and teaching material that could also be used in nature tourism. Th e material was intended to be further processed from the data given by the specialists and the information producers to such a form that it could be used as guide and teaching material. Another aim was to develop suitable regional entities and operation environments for nature education and school camps for the use of educational institutes and tourist businesses. Th e project plan also included the construction of exhibition departments to the Metsähallitus’ information cottage in Lentua and to the Visiting Centre in Kuhmo and the transformation of the Koski camping centre into a nature and school camp centre. Th e data should be produced in Finnish, Russian and English, so that it could also be used in cross-border operations and international education in schools.
