The project pays attention to Flood study development of long-term flood prevention and protection in order to minimize the floods risk, to the introduction of good economic practice and to promoting a holistic approach of flood prevention and protection. The forthcoming project is focused on local self-governments, especially on the development of a methodological guide for mayors of local authorities as the basis for the preparation of flood management plans (according to legislation). The project team will send questionnaires to the municipalities with the aim to get feedback on the needs of municipalities in flood protection (results of the survey already carried out in the preliminary research demonstrate the need of elaborating this methodological guide). Based on this research and scientific activity, both universities will jointly develop a study that would include the processing of the flood management plans, preliminary flood risk assessment in municipalities, based on the floods which occurred in the past, and flood risk assessment and management options with storm water management in the villages as flood prevention measure. The study will be drawn as a Specimen - a model for flood management plan. This model, together with the study and experts from the given field will be the basis for trainings, organized for the mayors and conferences. Priority objective is to increase the quality of knowledge in the water management especially at the local level and to maximize flood protection in the cross-border regions.
