Before and over the the borders - long-term changes in the Sami society
Basic information
-
Brief description of the consultancy firmThe aim of the project is to study how cultural changes in the society are reflected in the use of the cultural landscape, from prehistoric till modern times. A partial objective is to show that the Sami history is more complex than it appears according to currently existing descriptions that have been written in quite a basic way. The objective is to determine, with the help of archaeological methods and decolonisation theories, when the reindeer nomadism had developed in the Lule Sami language-spoken area. There are cultural relics in the area that show that reindeer herding had developed considerably earlier than the established paradigm stipulates. The objective is also to establish factual consequences that the two different kingdoms´ policies in this area had for the Sami people. Furthermore, the objective is to develop a cultural pedagogy based on the notion “the indigenous peoples´ knowledge” and on Sami traditional knowledge.
