The importance of the navigability of the Guadiana River, from its mouth to Mértola, marked for millennia the human occupation of the entire Guadiana valley and south of the peninsula. Thus, this project aims at the rehabilitation of the navigability of the Guadiana River in the international stretch, as well as the existing port infrastructures on both banks, and its accessibility, in order to increase the safety of navigation, promoting the development of the recreational and tourist activity, in line with the guidelines of sustainable development promoted by the Program.
