Mount Sabotino was the scene of bloody battles during the First World War. Today the border is no longer the symbol of peoples’ division and separation, and is going to become an example of union and cooperation thanks to the creation of the Peace Park, that counts on the participation of all the twenty-two peoples who fought on the Isonzo front. The project envisages the creation of several recreational infrastructures, as well as the marking and renovation of walk paths, cycling tracks, of twenty caves and more than one hundred and fifty metres of trenches dating back to the Great War. This initiative also aims to develop joint tourist products (Mount Sabotino, Peace Park, Gastronomy - the Flavours of the Frontier, Fronts and borders) that will connect the Peace Park with the wider area of the Isonzo front. In this sense information centres and info-points are set up for visitors in Villa Bartolomei di Salcano, in the barracks of the Border Guard and at the Gorizia Local Tourist Office. The actions envisaged also include the analysis of tourist resources, the training of tourist operators, the organization and promotion of events, the creation of tourist packages (2-3-6 day stay), and the promotion of tourist packages to enhance the territory as a whole. The latter extends to both sides of the border, based on a specific marketing plan, through the support of leaflets, videos, publicity ads and commercials on radio and TV. Thanks to this presentation the cross-border area that is interested by this project highlights and acknowledges a commitment towards sustainable development and the preservation of existing natural, historical and cultural resources.
