Deskrizzjoni qasira tad-ditta ta' konsulenzaThe transport sectors such as aeronautics, aerospace, railways and cars are highly developed sectors on both sides of the border region. The quality (longevity and reliability) of metal parts is, therefore, paramount to them; these parts need to resist friction, wear, corrosion and severe temperature constraints. The existing high-performance materials are often costly and do not meet the industry’s needs because they do not combine resistance with wear and corrosion. Hence the strong market demand for more efficient, less costly parts, and which will be resistant to both the phenomena of wear and corrosion. In this context, the TRANSPORT project aims to develop porous ceramic coatings by means of sol-gel deposited on metal substrates. These coatings will contain both lubricants (liquids or solids) and corrosion inhibitors, the aim being to obtain high-performance materials which are durable and resistant in all uses where metal parts are subject to friction and stress. The main actions will be to implement and test these parts, firstly in a laboratory setting, then in a pilot phase, and then develop solutions that meet market expectations using a collaborative approach that is strongly oriented towards the application by involving the industry partners behind the demand from the outset.
