There are times when science can seem to lose its connection to society and its needs, and sometimes its objectives are not fully understood, even if they are well intended. The lack of a common language and rapid progress in many areas of research has increased the public's concern or contributed to ambivalence about the role that science and technology play in everyday life. But science cannot work in isolation, and advances in science and technology are not an objective in their own right. SwafS areas in “Reforming and enhancing the European R&I system” The “Reforming and enhancing the European R&I system” part provides the new home for several SwafS areas in Horizon Europe. It is equipped with a budget of 438 million euros (current prices) and covers a broad spectrum of themes which go beyond the previous SwafS areas. In the legal basis for Horizon Europe (Specific Programme), 14 broad lines of activity are defined which determine the workprogramme and the calls for proposals. The specific objective of "Science with and for Society" focuses less on individual research areas, but promotes aspects that have a high relevance for excellent research and innovation. It supports measures in different areas and addresses target groups from a variety of scientific disciplines and different sectors. In this case, the top-down approach is applied, ie, promotion topics are specified.
