The cross-border intervention area is rich in both cultural and natural resources. The cultural elements that characterize the historical route duringf time, combined with the features of the geostrategic position, the geographical discontinuity of the island region, the isolation, the regionality and the uniqueness of the cultural identity make the island space a very important tourist product that needs to be jointly promoted with aim the development in a number of areas. The project deals with the protection, management and promotion of archaeological sites, which constitute an important cultural heritage of the cross-border arc of Greece and Cyprus, and their promotion as attractive destinations aiming at increasing the visibility and tourism development. The overall objective of the project is the creation and establishment of an attractive and off-peak sustainable tourism product through the protection, promotion, exploitation and promotion of the rich natural and cultural heritage and the creation of a cross-border network of areas of natural and cultural interest that will also contribute to the development of alternative tourism. The Department of Antiquities of Cyprus and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Lesvos, in collaboration with the Nicosia Development Company, that representing the Municipalities of the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, have decided to collaboratewith the aim of developing joint actions to stimulate the cross-border tourism product through the creation, implementation and promotion of a common methodology for the protection, management and promotion of cultural heritage.
