The project is directly related to Thematic objective Security and Priority 3.2 Addressing common security challenges, including Improving qualifications of the staff in charge of rescue actions and developing the ability to participate effectively in a joint response to incurred risks and Joint initiatives on prevention of natural and man-made disasters. The project is related to Ukrainian Strategy of reforming system of national rescue services based on decree of Prime Minister of Ukraine No. 61-p dated 25th January 2017. The project is based on the partnership of SOS – rescue Foundation (leader), Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue – Bieszczady Group (GOPR), Lviv regional control and rescue service of tourist-sports association of Ukraine and Municipality Ustrzyki Dolne. The overall objective of the project is: creating coordination and training centre to reduce mobilization time and increase effectiveness of cross-border rescue actions in Bieszczady region. To complete the overall objective following actions will be executed: adaptation of building in Równia, Poland for coordination and training centre, modernization of quarters in Slavsko, Ukraine for training and rescue action centre, purchase of training and rescue equipment for SOS – rescue Foundation, Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue – Bieszczady Group and Lviv regional control and rescue service of tourist-sports association of Ukraine, conducting training courses for rescuers and volunteer firefighters, conducting coordinated cross-border rescue actions, organizing public events to raise awareness about safety in mountains. The project will change following issues: no access to the self-reliant training and coordination centre in Polish Bieszczady region, no proper rescue and training base in Ukraine, no proper equipment for coordinated cross-border rescue actions, excessive waiting time for rescue team in Ukraine, low level of safety knowledge among local citizens and tourists.
