The EU is consuming increasing amounts of energy and importing more and more energy products because EU energy production is insufficient to meet its needs. If this trend continues, imports will increase and there will be even greater dependence on oil products. This situation creates great economic dependence and is a serious problem for the environment. It is therefore important to create initiatives for education and social awareness on the rational, careful use of energy. SOUSTENERGY aims to contribute to this approach, in the framework of interregional cooperation, as a tool for development and regional cohesion encouraged by INTERREG IIIC. Overall objective / Objectif général The objective is to bring about a change in the energy culture in European society. Common methodologies will be drawn up, tested and disseminated for the adoption of regional or local strategies for energy saving and efficiency based on education and increased social awareness. Expected results / Résultats attendus The results expected from this project will begin with an inventory of good practices for energy efficiency and saving. A methodological guide will then be drawn up for regional strategies and programmes on energy efficiency and saving. Based on this, a number of pilot experiments will be carried out relating to energy efficiency and saving in the following fields: municipalities, neighbours’ associations, technology exhibitions, sustainable mobility, schools, construction and responsible consumption. In addition to such pilot experiments, workshops will be held throughout the project on different subjects or sectors. A European network of entities relating to energy sustainability will also be created. In order to disseminate the results and conclusions of the project, a communications plan will be drawn up, a web site will be designed, and finally a European seminar will be held.
