The main objective of the project known as the Marian Pilgrimage Route (“Light from the East”) is to expand tourist infrastructure and create a new comprehensive tourism product inspired by the most recognisable pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The project also emphasises the cultural, natural, historical, social and spiritual values of Slavic nations coming from the Marian message and traditions. Meeting its main objective will contribute to the attainment of the Programme’s results: Increasing sustainable use of cultural and natural heritage by visitors and local population. The project was divided into several tasks which are linked factually, chronologically and logically. The first and basic task is setting up an Intersectoral Coordination Group to supervise the achievement of objectives in the long-term perspective. One of tangible results of the Coordination Group will be an extensive feasibility study in which a new product will be analysed in details in the context of the whole area, with the particular focus on investment locations. Apart from that, it will include the draft project of the lacking infrastructure and the concept of connection with the existing tourist or pilgrimage trails. The document will be the starting point for further investment and non-investment projects in the entire support area. In parallel with the study, a marketing concept will be developed for a new international tourism product, which is necessary to ensure the appropriate level and effectiveness of the product’s promotion in order for it to be internationally competitive. Promotion constitutes a separate task of the project due to the expected and notable results and will be divided into the traditional and innovative methods of production.
