Sustainable development has become popular in Finland, and reuse and recycling have become more common. At the same time, Russian tourism to Finland has become easier and increased, and those travelling to Finland are noted to also include people who trade in used household appliances. Th e idea of the project was to promote sustainable development by collecting used household appliances and construction parts, which would then be forwarded in an economically sustainable way for reuse in Russia. Th e appliances would either be sold to Russians in Finland or transported to Russia to be sold. Th e purpose of the project was to build a logistical entity, testing discarded appliances or selected construction materials, repairing and forwarding them to shops founded in Finland or transporting them across the border. Th e repair of household appliances would also create opportunities for activating disabled citizens and their organisations in the Russian cooperation regions and helping them to get employed themselves
