A:EYE
Augmented reality to Educate Young households about Energy
10
Basic information
-
Brief description of the consultancy firmA:EYE will give young households options for renewable energy and energy efficiency as sited in their own home, displayed on their phone or tablet. Pop up advice and options will be displayed with relevant information to their home including options for heating and hot water types, rooftop, walls, appliances, and details of links for action. Young households need information about renewables and energy efficiency displayed to them in a way which is useful, particularly when linked to local advice and options for action. A:EYE will capitalise on the explosion of smart phones and tablets across the region, with a prevalence amongst young households who are setting up home for the first time. Major companies such as IKEA and Dulux offer options for households using augmented reality, such as positioning furniture or colour of walls onto ‘in your house’. However, there are no similar options for energy, especially with information relevant to the NPA area. Our A:EYE project aims to demonstrate live ‘in your house’ renewable and energy efficiency options to young householders. Options are relevant to their region, including build type, appliances available and optimum renewable energy types of technology. Preparatory for A:EYE formalises our comprehensive partnership and complete a full application for the final round of 2014-20. Our partnership consists of energy experts TIG Scotland; Orkusetur, Iceland; and Energikontor Norr, Sweden, ensuring appropriate property construction and domestic renewable energy systems are displayed. We have experts in the field of augmented reality, deuxality.com (Scotland), and University College Cork who will test the impact of the technology on the householders and their use of energy, drawing from sociological and human geographical approaches. Ilinniapaa Skills Development Centre from Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada complete the team with their expertise in young people engagement, training and promotion of indigenous languages.
