The implementation of our project takes place in the cross-border region of ABAÚJ and the valley of Bódva, Kassa and Borsod counties in Slovakia and Hungary respectively with the participation of the network of 9 supported towns with twinning relationships, a public fund and 7 non-supported settlements. On 20 December 2007, the members establishing the ABAÚJ-IN-ABAÚJ Development Partnership decided that, using our own resources, we work out the development plan of our region and, having done so, we will apply for different grants. The people in our target regions have rather strong cohesion to their homeland as this is the birthplace of generations of the noble families of the Rákóczis, Ezsterházys and Lánczys. Their fate amalgamated with the history of the region. Many of our famous writers and poets including Arany János, Balassi Bálint, Ilosvai Selymes Péter found inspiration in the land. The fortresses and castles connected to the historic characters are not more than historic place names familiar to but a few. It is our common, primary objective to excavate the cross-border relics of our common historic past.
